The 47 in this dry gin by Monkey speaks to the number of ingredients in its botanical mix. The result is a festival of flavour, with the juniper, cassia, cloves, lavender and lime being the most obvious. The mix also includes lingonberry, a rare addition across the gin category.
Why we love it
The story of a gin made from 47 botanicals foraged across the Black Forest was already enough to captivate us. But once we experienced the complex layers that come with every sip, we went from merely intrigued to lifelong fans. This unanimously ranks as one of our favourite contemporary gins (and the one we reach for when the occasion and our wallet allows).
About Monkey 47
Monkey 47 was inspired by the true story of an RAF Wing Commander who settled in the Black Forest after WWII and created his own “Schwarzwald” dry gin. Decades later, Monkey 47 not only revived the pilot’s legendary recipe, they perfected it, and grew it into a global icon.
